MAPPING OF GENDER RELATED ORGANIZATIONS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS IN SLEDP COMMUNITIES CONDUCTED
The Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP) recently recruited a consultant to conduct a Gender Analysis and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Sexual Harassment (SEA/SH) exercise in all tourist destination sites of the project. The focus of this is to mitigate risks and address development challenges that may be associated with the project along these lines.
This exercise was carried out by the consultant conducting a detailed gender analysis as guided by the World Bank safeguard policies on gender mainstreaming, with particular emphasis on gender issues in the area of intervention (e.g., gender division of labour, access to a control of resources and technologies, women’s and men’s needs and preferences, and opportunities for and constraints on women’s participation).
The consultant is also expected to put in place measures to prevent, mitigate and respond to the risks of Gender Based Violence/ Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment (GBV/SEA/SH), associated with the Project construction and support the development of a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM).
The Consultant who is a Gender, Research and Development Specialist, trained a team of enumerators to undertake mapping of gender related organisations and service providers in SLEDP Communities (Leicester Peak, Tacugama/Bathurst/Regent, Bureh Beach, River No.2 and Bonthe Island). The enumerators administered mapping tools in project locations targeting community leaders (Councillors, Village Headmen/women, women’s Leaders) GBV service providers (Family Support Unit, Health Care Givers, CBOs/NGOs etc). The data collection exercise took place concurrently in all project communities from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th June 2022.
The mapping process was done through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) of community leaders and service providers.
