800 Women Graduate in Tourism Handicraft Skills Training
Eight hundred (800) Sierra Leonean women who successfully completed the Women Entrepreneurship and Capacity Building Skills in Tourism and Hospitality were conferred certificates by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Hon. Nabeela Tunis.
The beneficiaries were primarily drawn from the project site communities including Leicester, Number Two (2), Bureh, Kent, Banana and Bonthe Islands and trained in Gara Tie Dying, Makeup Application, Soap Making, and Bead Making. The capacity building training was spearheaded by Madam Wokie, a Sierra Leone based fashion brand and social enterprise.
The World Bank funded entrepreneurship empowerment and capacity building skills in tourism and hospitality initiative through the Sierra Leone Economic Diversification Project (SLEDP) does not only build the capacity of craft women and artisans alone, it also caters for the Gender and Women Empowerment (GEWE) Act 2022.
The Minister expressed her deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the World Bank through SLEDP for the unwavering support to the tourism industry in Sierra Leone. She congratulated the graduants for the dedication they demonstrated right through and through and underscored the Ministry’s recognition and appreciation of their contributions to the tourism industry.
